Austin Aplin is a visual effects producer at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) based in London, England. Originally from Portland, Oregon, he began his career in visual effects production in Vancouver, Canada, after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Film/Cinema/Video Studies at the University of British Columbia. After graduating, he interned at the Northwest Filmmakers' Festival at the Portland Art Museum. His early career started as a production assistant at Digital Domain, where he worked on Blackhat (2015) and Deadpool (2016), as well as a virtual human hologram project for the Teresa Teng 20th Anniversary Memorial Concert (2015).
Aplin joined DNEG in 2016, where he progressed through several production roles over more than five years. As a production coordinator, he worked on Star Trek Beyond (2016). He later advanced to line producer on Annihilation (2018), Pacific Rim Uprising (2018), First Man (2018), and Men in Black: International (2019). He subsequently became a production manager on The Matrix Resurrections (2021) and F9 (2021).
In 2021, Aplin moved to Framestore, where he initially served as an associate visual effects producer on The Little Mermaid (2023). He was later promoted to visual effects producer, working on Men (2022, Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), Civil War (2024), and How to Train Your Dragon (2025).
In June 2025, Aplin joined Industrial Light & Magic as a visual effects producer in London. In this role, he is working on Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026).
